About This Event

“So, the question of right livelihood is your problem and mine, is it not? But most of us are not concerned with right livelihood at all, we are glad and thankful simply to have a job; and so we maintain a society, a culture, that renders right livelihood impossible… do not treat it theoretically. If you find yourself in a wrong vocation and actually do something about it, do you not see what a revolution it will bring in your life and in the life of those around you? But if you listen casually and carry on as before because you have a good job and for you there is no problem, obviously you will continue to cause misery in the world. For the man with too little money there is a problem; but (s)he, like the rest of us, is only concerned with having more, and when (s)he gets more the problem continues, because (s)he wants still more.” J. Krishnamurti Bombay/Mumbai 1950.

We welcome you to the beautiful East End of Ojai at the Krishnamurti Retreat Center for a silent retreat in which you’re invited to reflect upon the topic of ‘Right Livelihood.’

The topic is immensely pertinent in today’s world as it affects all of us to varying degrees. The method (which is silence) provides participants with potential ample space, relative stillness, and freedom to hold questions relating to ‘right livelihood’ with soft hands, an open mind, and possible access to the unknown. All of these things, together may bring fresh insights to the individual.

While this is a silent retreat, we do offer scaffolding of a schedule so that participants can drop into both their own rhythm alongside being within a group atmosphere. The weekend is meant for you to be with yourself – in silence – however this looks and feels. We come together at regular times to sit, share a meal, and walk all within the context of silence. This retreat invites you to dive into your relationship with your own work (whatever this means to you), how you make a living, life and livelihood within the context of a society, and whatever else might come up.
